Qld: Beattie denies pork-barrelling in Redcliffe

The Queensland government says it will spend $4 million on health care services in
the seat of Redcliffe, which is holding a by-election.

But it denies the funding is linked to the August the 20th poll.

The government says the money go towards 22 new health professionals who'll provide
home support for elderly patients and free up 25 hospital beds.

The funding will also pay for a new paediatrician, two new ultrasound machines and
two new special care cots for newborn babies.

Premier PETER BEATTIE says the government is prepared for cynicism because of the by-election.

But he says there are health care problems in Redcliffe, and the government is addressing them.

Redcliffe was vacated last month when Labor MP and Speaker RAY HOLLIS retired after
16 years in parliament.
